Need some info if you can help
See my old laptop computer was Windows XP or Vista.......
So if I am getting a new computer it will have to be windows 7 or 8.

I know Windows 8 looks pretty different. Anyone got much to say about either versions.
If your using 8 is it easy to work out yes/no? What do you like/dislike???
I think Windows 7 is more like XP and Vista????

HELP.............

I got a new laptop in the new year and it had windows 8. I absolutely hated it! It is not intuitive at all. I understand it was designed for touchscreens so if you get one of those you might be fine. A friend who works in IT says it has been a bit of a flop, a bit like Vista which was also rubbish. I have recently had my laptop converted to windows 7, which is like XP(which was very popular). Good luck with whatever you go with!

We have Windows 8. Is is more designed to use "app" versions of programs with little "App squares" on your screen. I hate change but have got my head around it but I by no means use it to its full potential. If I was to buy again I think I would stick with Windows 7.

We stayed with Windows 7 on our new laptop for the reasons Helen gave.

Hi Chooky, I have a 2 week old new notebook, they all come with windows 8 now or so it seemed from looking at them. Mine has touch screen so works like my smart phone.
There is a desktop screen and that works the same as windows 7 or vista.

According to DH (my resident computer geek!) The main difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8 is that 8 supports touch screens. If you don't have a touch screen there isn't much point having Windows 8. One of DH's colleagues (also in IT) removed Windows 8 and went back to Windows 7 on his laptop.

Good luck with your choice.

Hello Chooky, Windows 7 is the go, more like XP, Windows 8 is more difficult. They have a few issues to iron out. I now have Windows 7 on both my laptop and PC.

Hope you make the right choice!!

I had XP for years, but when my computer died last year I had to upgrade to 7. It's a bit different but it was easy to catch on to.

My next computer will be a MAC. I to am on XP and frankly, if I am to learn a new software, it will be on a MAC. I wanted to buy a photo editing software (Darkroom ...) and couldn't because I was on XP and not Windows 8. Annoyed that they change all the time! Good luck with your computer project! Cheers!

Sorry, I have a MAC which I love. So much easier than a PC and you can do much more. Plus you hardly get any viruses.

I love my little MAC even though I use the other at work all of the time.

Hi, I had to replace recently too... was advised 7 was easy to work with and 8 if you are familiar with ipad, smartphone type layouts.... interesting to hear what others have said....

I have 8 on my desk top and 7 on my lap top. Hate the 8, love the 7. I don't have anything that uses the app squares so if I did I might like 8 more but right now I don't enjoy it at all.

I'm happily working with 7. Sounds like this confirms what others have said about 8 so good to know :o)
